Stage 1

We analyze platforms you want to port to and their requirements for games in terms of performance, SDKs, controls, and other technical limitations.

Time to Deliver
~2 weeks
Stage 2

We examine your game’s source code to figure out the best porting approach. Within that stage, we:

  • Determine if we can use your current codebase for porting or it’s better to rewrite and adapt it for target platforms to simplify the process
  • Examine existing art assets and figure out if we need to optimize them for the target platforms
  • Study all third-party SDKs, backend solutions, and other architectural elements to find out of they’re compatible with target platforms
Time to Deliver
~2 months
Stage 3

We start porting. That stage is often conducted in cycles, depending on project complexity, so we could prototype separate game elements and integrate controls step-by-step, do vertical slices, release demos, etc. to make sure everything works correctly.

Time to Deliver

Stage 4

We submit the game to the target platform for the platform holders internal review

We have been working with iLogos for a long time including development and live ops of our Top Grossing games such as Shadow Fight 1-3 which have had 100+ million downloads. But our experience has not been just work, it has been a strategic partnership. Why? The company works based on a set of values, including flexibility, commitment, professionalism and customer orientation. We started working with iLogos in the production of new educational games for our pre-k audience, and they rapidly became a strategic partner for Papumba. What we found is a very committed and motivated team that is always adding value to every stage of the project. it is remarkable the great team of animators, game designers, project managers and developers they have. No doubt we will continue working together in more awesome games.

Frequently Asked Questions

From which platforms can you port? To which platforms can you port?

We work with all major platforms: web, mobile, PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox X/S. We’re ready to port to new platforms, too — consoles or custom hardware — if you’d wish to try them.

What does the porting look like?

It depends on your game and the target platforms you’ve chosen. If your game is still in development, we port while your developers are working — without disrupting anything; we have a special pipeline for that.

If your game is completed and its features are locked, we plan porting based on your release date and the technical aspects we need to go through while porting. To figure out the scope of the latter, we quickly investigate things like memory usage, FPS, etc. within your project and run some tests. Then, we port a short part of your game to a targeted platform, measure how much time we spent on it, and extrapolate timing on the whole game to work out the best workflow.

Do we need to share any info with iLogos for porting?

Yes, we’ll need access to your game design document (GDD), technical design document, source code, and existing game assets to provide you with an accurate estimate of how long the porting will take. If the game is old or was built using legacy technology, we’ll only need access to GDD — because the porting would be more of a game recreation from scratch.

How long does it take to port a game to a new platform?

Sometimes it takes several weeks, sometimes several months. We’ll be happy to study your game and provide you with a high-level estimate.

Can you update game mechanics during porting?

Yes, our Game Designers are either involved directly in the project or consulting the porting team. Each platform has specific requirements related to gameplay controls and user experience — and Game Designers are there to make sure your game mechanics fit into the target platform seamlessly.

Do you have dev kits?

Yes, we do have devkits for all main platforms. Ask about the one you want to know about in your request.

Why outsource game porting?

If you already have a story with video game development, you probably know that it takes a ton of effort to create a game that people will love. But what happens when you need to transfer your game to a new platform?

That’s where game porting services step in to give a helping hand. And if you’re looking for the best option, outsourcing is usually the way to go. Here’s why:

Experience: These companies have experience specifically in both video game development and porting. They know how to navigate the complex world of platform differences, and they’ll be able to carry out your project without errors. Plus, they’ll guarantee a successful launch, based on their previous experience.

Efficiency: When you hire a porting company, their technicians will do all the heavy lifting for you. This means you can focus on other important tasks and goals, knowing that your game is in good hands. And because they know how to do the job right, they’ll likely get it done faster.

Saving time and money: Let’s face it, game porting can be a long and costly process, filled with unexpected challenges that can drain your budget and resources. But with the help of an experienced outsourcing team, you can rest assured that every step of the way will be handled in an actually productive way that will probably save you money.

So if you’re thinking about transferring your video to a new platform, don’t hesitate to reach iLogos Game Studios. It could be the best decision you make for your game and your business.

What is video game porting?

Porting involves adapting a completed game from platform to platform. The main goal of this process is to allow it to run natively and smoothly on its new home. While it may sound straightforward, this requires a deep understanding of the intricacies of each platform – from the hardware to the software. Whether it’s taking advantage of a console’s motion controls, or optimizing touch-screen controls for mobile devices, porting is a delicate dance between creativity and technical skill.
